Man found guilty of killing helpful citizen in DUI crash in Southern California.
A man has been found guilty of second-degree murder and faces a potential life sentence for a DUI crash that resulted in the death of a woman who was assisting at the scene of an earlier accident in Oxnard. According to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, Francisco Garcia was driving on Pleasant Valley Road when he collided with two disabled vehicles that were involved in a previous crash, killing Elicia Lopez-Hernandez and injuring another individual. Garcia attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly after. The DA's Office reported that Garcia, who had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.24%, had received a prior Watson advisement for a DUI conviction in 2009. This advisement warns drivers in California that if they cause a fatality while driving under the influence, they could face murder charges. Garcia is looking at a 22-year to life prison sentence and is set to be sentenced in early August.
