Man convicted for causing deadly I-5 collision that resulted in trooper's death

A man, Raul Benitez-Santana, aged 33, has been found guilty by a jury for the death of Washington State Patrol Trooper Christopher Gadd, who tragically lost his life in a fatal crash on Interstate 5 near Marysville in March 2024. Benitez-Santana was convicted of vehicular assault and vehicular homicide for crashing into Trooper Gadd's patrol car at over 100 miles per hour while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. The trial commenced on May 23 and the jury swiftly reached a verdict after deliberation, with the sentencing scheduled for July.
