Man charged in fatal Fond du Lac County OWI crash, ordered to stand trial

FOND DU LAC (WLUK) – Dakota Krueger was ordered to stand trial in connection with an alleged drunk driving fatal crash. Krueger, 21, faces one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, and two counts of OWI causing injury. An arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 25, court records show. According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a crash about 8 a.m. on June 21 in the town of Auburn. Krueger told police he stopped for a stop sign just before the crash. “It appears that Krueger then attempted to make a left turn to continue southbound on CTH V and was struck by the oncoming northbound vehicle. It appears that Krueger would have failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming northbound vehicle,” the complaint states. Krueger told police he had been drinking the night before, but stopped around 6 p.m. However, one of his passengers told police Krueger “had been drinking alcoholic beverages potentially just prior to him leaving his house at 4:00am on this date,” the complaint states. Officers said Krueger showed signs of intoxication, but because of the head and other injuries, a field sobriety test was not performed. Officers attempted to perform a breath test, but he refused. After being transported to the hospital, a warrant was obtained and a blood draw was taken. Results are not cited in the complaint. At the hospital, Krueger offered this description of the crash: “KRUEGER stated 'I usually have more compassion, but I don't. For what? Someone that's speeding and pulled out'.,” the complaint states. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 68-year-old Kewaskum woman, died from her injuries in the crash.
