Major crash on US 36 Westbound towards Boulder causes extended closure
DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado Department of Transportation officials and other first responders are responding to a major crash on U.S. 36 westbound towards Boulder that involved a pedestrian. According to CDOT, the closure is between 170 and Cherryvale Road at mile marker 41, with detours in place and delays expected. According to the Colorado State Patrol, troopers responded around 3:45 p.m. to the crash, which initial investigation shows that a Mercury Mountaineer SUV broke down in the center lane, prompting pedestrians to walk towards it on both shoulders. Officials say that while pedestrians crossed over, a Honda CR-V traveling westbound in the same lane attempted to avoid the broken-down vehicle; however, the driver lost control as the vehicle swerved into the shoulder and struck a man, who has been hospitalized with unknown injuries. Authorities urge motorists to use McCaslin Road to either South Boulder or Marshall Road for the time being if heading into Boulder. FOX31 will provide updates as needed.
