Longview woman arrested for intoxication manslaughter after fatal crash

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) -- Longview police are investigating a deadly weekend crash that resulted in a woman being arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. The Longview Police Department said that on Saturday at around 7:50 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving two SUVs in the 2200 block of West Loop 281. According to preliminary investigation, a Jeep crossed the median and struck a Tahoe. The Tahoe had five occupants, and the driver was killed in the crash, the Longview Police Department said. Officials have not publicly identified the driver. The Jeep driver, 45-year-old Casey Johnson of Longview, has been arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxication assault. She remains in the Gregg County Jail on a $500,000 bond. The police department said the crash remains under investigation and anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact them at 903-237-1199. KETK News spoke with the victim’s family members, who identified the deceased as Clayton Smith. "He was a great father, husband, family member and person in general," a family member said. "Everyone who knew him loved him, and he loved the people around him endlessly." A woman inside the Tahoe, Hallie Baker, lost her unborn daughter, who was supposed to be their miracle baby. She remains in the ICU. Hallie's husband, Kaleb, also sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized with a severe head injury, facing a long and difficult recovery. Those wishing to help the family can do so through a GoFundMe created to support them during this tragic time. Two separate funerals are expected to be held for Clayton and Hallie’s unborn daughter.
