Legislators remember life of Rep. Liz Conmy after fatal crash

FARGO, ND (KXNET) — Later this week, family and friends will gather to remember a North Dakota state legislator who was killed in a plane crash last weekend. Rep. Liz Conmy died in the crash, which happened in Brooklyn Park, just outside Minneapolis on Saturday. She served in the legislature during the last two sessions, representing District 11 in Fargo. Conmy was a retired farmer who served on the House Education and Energy and Natural Resources committees. Her colleagues at the capitol are remembering her fondly, as is the woman who was campaigning with Conmy, candidate Anastassiya Andrianova. "It is a huge loss, it's something I'm still processing. She was one of the reasons for me to go to Bismarck," Andrianova said. "She was an inspiration and I felt empowered knowing she would be sitting next to me in the Legislature and guiding me." "Well, she had already kind of proven herself in my eyes, to be an excellent legislator and to be one that, it didn't matter what party you were in, it mattered what the people of North Dakota wanted," Rep. Pat Heinert said. "So, we're really going to lose that." According to an obituary for Conmy, she died along with Dr. Joe Cass, a retired surgeon at the Mayo Clinic. A celebration of life for Conmy is happening on Friday afternoon in Moorhead. Governor Kelly Armstrong invited North Dakotans to fly their state and U.S. flags at half-staff the day of her interment.
