LAPD pursuit ends in fiery crash, trapping multiple people including a 12-year-old boy
A Los Angeles pursuit ended in a fiery crash on Monday night, trapping a young boy and at least one other passenger inside one of the hit vehicles. According to the L.A. Fire Department, crews went out around 8:21 p.m. to rescue three total patients, two of whom were trapped. Only the two trapped patients were identified as a 12-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman. One of the other cars involved in this destructive crash was an L.A. Police Department squad vehicle that caught fire. Around 9:20 p.m., LAPD officials told KTLA that the pursuit was short-lived before officers crashed into a third-party vehicle on Crenshaw Boulevard and Vernon Avenue. The suspects were gone on arrival, police said. The LAPD cruiser caught fire, according to the fire department, but the officers inside were able to safely evacuate. Crews extricated two patients from the other car, and officials said the 12-year-old was transported in unknown condition, and the 30-year-old was transported in critical condition. In a later update, officials said a total of five patients were hospitalized as a result of this crash. The other three patients' ages, status or further identifying information were not immediately known. Sky5 was overhead after the patients were taken to the hospital, examining the wreckage. KTLA’s Gil Leyvas reported live, seeing at least one other patient being taken to an ambulance. Footage of this is available below. Details about the pursuit are limited, but unconfirmed reports say the driver was wanted for a DUI. Police did not immediately provide an update on the pursuit suspects, but Leyvas said they were believed to be on the loose as of 9:30 p.m.
