LAPD cruiser captures fatal collision with skateboarder in Highland Park
Authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department have released video footage of a tragic collision between officers and a 30-year-old man in Highland Park earlier this year. The incident occurred on Sept. 19 around 7:17 p.m. as officers were responding to a police perimeter while driving with lights and sirens activated. The officers accidentally struck Gerardo “Jerry” Estrada, who was riding a skateboard in the median lane. Despite immediate aid efforts from the officers and medical personnel, Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene by the L.A. Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing, led by LAPD's Traffic Coordination Division and Multidisciplinary Investigation Team. Colleagues and loved ones remember Estrada as a talented individual passionate about music, photography, and film, with aspirations for a creative career.
