L.A. Fire Department ambulance involved in collision; 4 hospitalized
Four people, including two police officers and a firefighter, were taken to the hospital after a collision involving an ambulance in Los Angeles’ Westchester neighborhood Wednesday night. The crash, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, was reported just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Sepulveda Westway. Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly what happened, but preliminary information suggested that two Los Angeles Police officers were escorting a patient to the hospital aboard an LAFD ambulance when a collision occurred between the ambulance and another vehicle, reportedly driven by a 23-year-old woman. Footage of the scene obtained by KTLA showed a heavy police and fire response, with at least one patient who appeared to be lying on the sidewalk while medical personnel attended to them and later put them in the back of a responding ambulance. The ambulance involved in the crash had visible damage to its front end, while the other vehicle showed a shattered driver’s side windshield. Fire officials said the two police officers and a paramedic, as well as the patient originally being taken to the hospital, suffered minor injuries. The female driver also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. No further details have been made available.
