KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A St. Louis man is dead after a plane heading to New Century AirCenter crashed. FOX 2 News in St. Louis reported that the crash happened Tuesday at about 3:40 a.m. at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Officials say the aircraft was an Aero Commander 500B, a small cargo plane, that crashed short of the runway. Only the pilot was on the aircraft at the time of the crash, FOX 2 reported. The pilot has been identified as 65-year-old Edward Ruhbeck, of St. Louis. According to the FAA, the plane is registered to Central Airlines Incorporated, a Kansas City-based company. The FAA lists the registered owner's address in Leawood, Kansas. FlightAware's Flight Track Log shows the flight plan had the plane set to land at New Century AirCenter early Tuesday morning, but the pilot turned around for an unknown reason and crashed at Spirit of St. Louis Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading this investigation.
