K-10 Highway in Lawrence shut down for more than 5 hours overnight because of deadly head-on collision
Kansas Highway 10 was shut down for more than five hours overnight due to a tragic head-on collision between a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Kia Forte. The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. Friday when the Chevrolet veered into oncoming traffic and struck the Kia. Authorities from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office closed the affected stretch of highway at 10:40 p.m. and it was reopened before 4 a.m. Saturday. Tragically, the driver of the Kia, Michael Dieker, 41, from Kansas City, MO, passed away at the scene. The Chevrolet's driver, Eliseo Munoz, 23, of Lawrence, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. It is unclear whether Munoz was wearing a seatbelt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
