JBLE officials address Air Power Over Hampton Roads after fatal plane crash
HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) -- Joint Base Langley-Eustis and National Transportation Safety Board officials held a press conference Friday afternoon following a plane crash at Langley Air Force Base that killed famed stunt pilot, Rob Holland. This happened before his performance at the Air Power Over Hampton Roads air show, which will go on as scheduled April 26-27. The MX Aircraft MXS flown by Rob Holland crashed while landing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton shortly before noon. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. National Transportation Safety Board President Dan Boggs said during the briefing that the aircraft's loss of control was "underdetermined." The aircraft is set to be moved to an off-site location and a detailed examination will be launched on the flight controls and engine. This weekend's air show will be dedicated to Holland. Joint Base Langley-Eustis Installation Commander Matthew Altman said the event will continue to celebrate the joy of airpower and provide a tribute to his legacy. Holland was a 13-time U.S. national aerobatic champion, a six-time world 4-minute freestyle champion and a 14-time U.S. 4-minute freestyle champion. Holland had been flying at airshows for more than two decades.
