Investigation underway for deadly RV accident in Defiance County

A tragic RV accident in Defiance County, Ohio is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Defiance Post. According to a statement from the Patrol, a woman and child were traveling east on State Route 249 when the woman failed to obey a stop sign and was hit by an RV traveling north on US 127 around 11:21 a.m. Both vehicles went off the intersection's northeast side, causing the car to overturn. The RV driver, Jay Shaffer, 61, was not buckled up and was partially thrown from the RV. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The car's driver and child sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to adhere to stop signs, yield at intersections, and always wear their seat belts. The incident is currently under investigation.
