Interstate 80 West in Placer County shut down after serious accident

A single-car crash on westbound Interstate 80 in Placer County left one person dead and three injured, closing a portion of the highway on Thursday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol reported that a minor passenger was among the casualties and the driver and two other passengers sustained major injuries in the incident at Westbound I-80 at Highway 174 in Colfax. Traffic was redirected through Colfax due to the lane closure, with only one lane reopened by 2 p.m. Caltrans advised caution to motorists passing through the area. Additionally, a big rig accident partially blocked a westbound lane of I-80 in the Applegate area due to wet road conditions from recent rain. Further updates on this situation are pending.
