Injuries reported after box truck crashes into guard rail on I-24 in Antioch

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Multiple lanes of Interstate 24 West in Antioch are blocked Tuesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash that left a person trapped inside a vehicle. The crash was reported at 4:42 a.m. at mile marker 57, near the Haywood Lane exit. The crash involved a box truck that crashed into a guard rail and an overturned vehicle in the woods with a person trapped inside. The box truck driver was taken to the hospital with injuries as first responders worked to free the other driver. Just before 6 a.m., the person in the car was extracted and sent to the hospital. Both are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries. According to Metro police, the box truck is believed to have rear-ended the car in the far right lane and both vehicles crashed into the guard rail. The box truck driver told authorities the car did not have any lights on at the time. The car was pushed over the guard rail and flipped onto its roof in the woods below. Its driver was found hanging upside down by the seatbelt. Authorities used a winch to stabilize the box truck and towed it away from the guard rail. After several hours of lane closures, the interstate fully reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
