Injured teen charged in fatal crash involving stolen car

Police charged a teenager who was injured in last week's fatal crash in Jessup involving a stolen car.Video above: Car in fatal crash was stolen days prior, police sayHoward County police on Thursday announced auto manslaughter and stolen vehicle charges against a 16-year-old Laurel boy who has since been released from the hospital into the custody of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.County police said the charges stem from the May 9 crash involving four vehicles on Guilford Road that killed Bonnie Fuller Griffith, 69, of Columbia."What happened first was this car that was stolen, occupied by juveniles, sideswiped a car trying to make a left, lost control, hit another car and then collided head-on with a car traveling the opposite way," Howard County police spokesman Seth Hoffman told 11 News on Monday.Griffith was the driver of the car that was struck head-on.The suspect vehicle was stolen just days prior in Prince George's County, police told 11 News.Police have preliminary information about what happened based on evidence at the scene."One of the vehicles had a dashcam, so we were able to see what happened, what transpired exactly that helped us piece together some things," Hoffman told 11 News.SkyTeam 11 video shows the stolen car ended up in a ditch against a tree, and the other vehicles sustained extensive damage. Crash investigators checked the license plates on the suspect vehicle and discovered that the car was reported stolen out of District Heights six days prior.Four youths fled from the crash, including the 16-year-old boy who was injured and now faces charges.
