Identification of individual killed in Constitution Avenue car accident
The man involved in a fatal car accident at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Alpine Drive has been named by the El Paso County Coroner's Office. Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers responded to the incident on Saturday, June 21, involving a Ram pickup truck and a Toyota Rav4. The Rav4, driven by the now-identified 61-year-old Charles Carlton of Colorado Springs, was making a left turn onto Alpine Drive from eastbound Constitution when it was struck by the westbound Ram. Carlton sustained severe injuries and passed away at the hospital. Authorities suspect that speed and potential impairment played a role in the accident, but investigations are ongoing. The identity of the Ram driver has not been disclosed yet. The CSPD was alerted to the collision at around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday near Constitution Avenue and Alpine Drive, where the tragic incident unfolded involving the high-speed westbound vehicles and Carlton's left-turning eastbound vehicle.
