I-90 eastbound partially reopens after Monday crash

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 eastbound in Erie County briefly resulted in a closure, causing significant delays for drivers on Monday afternoon. Vehicles were moved to the side of the road, and drivers were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for over an hour, with some estimating even longer wait times. The highway closure stretched between exit 9 (Route 18, Girard/Platea) and exit 16 (Route 98, Fairview/Franklin Center) but has since reopened. Emergency crews started allowing traffic to pass through around 2 pm, with the interstate fully reopening later at 3:20 pm. Prior to that, drivers were diverted off the highway at exit 9, causing heavy congestion on Route 20 in Girard Borough. Another crash had shut down Interstate 80 eastbound between Exit 35 and Exit 42 but has also since reopened. No injuries have been reported. In response to the wintry conditions, PennDOT has reduced speed limits on I-90 in Erie County to 45 mph and advises motorists to limit unnecessary travel due to the forecasted snow and cold temperatures.
