How did a vehicle end up on Castro Valley BART tracks? Update
A car unexpectedly fell from a tow truck onto BART train tracks in Castro Valley on Tuesday afternoon after a collision on Interstate 580, according to authorities. This unusual series of events occurred around 2:54 p.m. on westbound I-580 east of Castro Valley Boulevard, as reported by the California Highway Patrol's Hayward division. The initial crash involved a red Chevy pickup truck and a tow truck carrying an empty sedan, causing the towed vehicle to land on the nearby BART tracks. The tow truck driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the pickup driver was unharmed. BART service between Castro Valley and Dublin was temporarily disrupted during rush hour but was later reinstated. Special equipment, like a rotator crane, was used to remove the sedan from the tracks. The cause of the crash is still unknown and under investigation by the CHP. The drivers involved, including the tow truck driver and the pickup driver, are cooperating with authorities.
