High School Senior Killed in Bishop Ford Freeway Accident
A tragic accident on the Bishop Ford Freeway in Calumet City, Illinois, has left a south suburban family and community in mourning following the loss of 18-year-old Homewood-Flossmoor High School student, Tom' Mya Lyons. Just the day before, Lyons had been sent off to prom in a beautiful blue dress, as her family and friends planned to release blue balloons in her honor. She had been all smiles in a photo from prom day, wearing a sequined blue dress. The Illinois State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash on the Sibley Boulevard ramp to the Bishop Ford early Sunday morning, with Lyons in the passenger seat while a 16-year-old boy was driving, fortunately unharmed. Homewood-Flossmoor High School expressed deep sorrow over the loss and offered condolences to the Lyons family, emphasizing the unity and support within the school community during difficult times. While Lyons' family had just shared a joyful moment celebrating her prom sendoff, they are now faced with planning her funeral. Her friend Dylan Kenebrew, who had known her since sixth grade, expressed shock and sadness at the news, especially as their graduation was approaching soon. The school provided support through a crisis team for grieving students, as the police continued their investigation into the crash.
