Hancock Co. S.O.: 1 dead following head-on crash in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Ind. -- One person was pronounced dead following a Saturday afternoon crash in Greenfield, according to officials with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. Around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Greenfield Police Department responded to a reported head-on crash involving two vehicles in the 3700 block of N. State Road 9. A news release from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. stated that the crash involved a 2019 Ford Fusion driven by 32-year-old Cody Clark, a Greenfield resident, and a 2013 Cadillac Escalade driven by a 45-year-old Greenfield resident with five additional passengers. Officials said the Ford Fusion reportedly crossed the centerline into the southbound lane of State Road 9. The release said this resulted in the Cadillac Escalade being struck head-on. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene. The release said that he was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. The driver of the Cadillac Escalade was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Four juvenile passengers were transported to local hospitals due to the severity of the crash. "At this time, drugs and/or alcohol may be a factor," the release said. "The investigation is ongoing. State Road 9 was closed for an extended period while officers from the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated."
