Greenville officer killed, another critically injured in Spartanburg County crash that killed 5

A head-on crash in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, killed five people, including a Greenville police sergeant, according to investigators.The crash happened at 12:45 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Bellview Road extension. Troopers said a 2025 Ford SUV was traveling north on Highway 101 and a 2016 Toyota SUV was traveling south on Highway 101.They said the two vehicles collided head-on. The driver and passenger in the Ford SUV died, as well as the driver and two passengers in the Toyota SUV. Another passenger in the Toyota SUV was injured, troopers said.The driver and passenger of the Ford were identified by the coroner as 50-year-old Deborah Sue Wyatt and 46-year-old Max Douglas Wyatt Jr., both of Duncan. Deborah died at the scene and Max later died at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.The coroner's office identified two of the three occupants who died in the Toyota as 35-year-old Ashley Munoz of Woodruff and 62-year-old Maria Del Rosario Munoz of Greenville.Sergeant Ashley Munoz, an 11-year veteran of the Greenville Police Department, died at the scene. Ashley was promoted to sergeant in 2023 and supervised GPD's Criminal Investigations Units, including Property Crimes, Financial Crimes and Family Crimes. Ashley's partner, Diana Munoz, who is also a Sergeant for the Greenville Police Department, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Greenville Police said Diana, a 12+-year veteran, was airlifted to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Diana, who was promoted to sergeant in 2022, currently serves as the department's Public Information Officer.She is the first Latina to serve in her role at the department.Greenville Police said, "The couple, who have two small children, were returning from vacation when the accident occurred." The identity of the other individual who was killed in the Toyota will be released once the next of kin has been notified.Community members described the Munoz's as "incredible officers and people."A memorial service has been set up at the City of Greenville Public Safety Campus on Halton Road. Anyone from the public who would like to pay their respects and support for the family, and department, are invited to show up.
