Greenville man dies in New Scotland crash
NEW SCOTLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- One person has died following an early morning crash in New Scotland on Monday. According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, the driver, 59-year-old Frank Chappell, of Greenville, was pronounced dead the hospital. Authorities said, at around 6:26 a.m. deputies were dispatched to Clarksville South Road and Dunbar Hollow Road for reports of a single-car crash. Upon arrival, they found a yellow 2015 KIA Soul resting against trees in a wooded area. Deputies said an inital investigation determined Chappell and his 21-year-old female passenger were driving northbound on Clarksville South Road when the car left the roadway, hitting multiple trees before coming to stop in the woods. Both passengers were transported to Albany Medical Center, but Chappell subsequently died of his injuries. The 21-year-old was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said. According to the sheriff's office, preliminary interviews and the crash investigation determined Chappell may have experienced a medical event, leading to the crash. Deputies said the investigation remains ongoing pending the results of an autopsy, which scheduled for later Tuesday.
