GoFundMe created after 3-year-old boy dies days after Highway 41 crash in Fresno
A young boy died on Wednesday from injuries he received in a crash on Sunday in Fresno. 3-year-old Kendrixx was riding in a car that hit a blacked-out Toyota blocking the center lane of Highway 41 in the middle of the night. It's unknown why the car was stopped in the lane of traffic and not on the shoulder. CHP says several callers reported the vehicle after nearly hitting it around 2:30 a.m. before a 33-year-old woman driving a Kia Optima was unable to avoid it. The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control and come to rest in the far-right and far-left lanes of the highway. 3-year-old Kendrixx suffered major, life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. His family created a GoFundMe to raise money for his hospital care, writing, "He suffered devastating injuries and went into cardiac arrest at the scene. By the grace of God and the incredible efforts of first responders and medical staff, they were able to bring him back. He is currently fighting for his life in the hospital," they said. "He is now paralyzed and placed in a Halo brace due to severe spinal injuries. The road ahead will be long and filled with surgeries, intensive medical care, rehabilitation, and unimaginable emotional pain for his loved ones. No family is ever prepared for something this traumatic. We are asking for help to support his medical expenses, rehabilitation, travel costs, and the daily needs his family will face while staying by his side through this fight." Then on Wednesday, the fundraiser turned to a very sad plea to help pay for his funeral. "It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we share that sweet Kendrixx has passed away from the injuries sustained in the tragic car accident. Despite fighting so hard through devastating cervical spine injuries and complications from the crash, he sadly gained his wings surrounded by the love of his family. On behalf of the family, we want to thank everyone who has donated, shared, prayed, and supported them during this incredibly painful time. Your kindness has meant more than words can express. As the family now faces the overwhelming emotional and financial burden of laying their baby to rest, all donations will continue going directly toward funeral expenses, memorial costs, and helping the family as they navigate this unimaginable loss while taking time to grieve and heal together. Please continue to keep his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time." Click here to contribute to the fundraiser. A male passenger in the Kia also suffered major injuries and was transported for medical treatment. The driver of the Toyota, identified as 31-year-old Carlos Sandoval Jr. of Selma, was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Alcohol impairment is suspected to have been a factor involving the Toyota driver, pending toxicology and coroner analysis, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing.
