Florida pursues states regarding immigrant truck driver issue after fatal crash
After a tragic accident on Florida's Turnpike in August, State Attorney General James Uthmeier is pushing for action from the U.S. Supreme Court to prevent California and Washington from granting commercial driver's licenses to individuals in the country illegally. Uthmeier's office released a lawsuit accusing these states of disregarding federal safety and immigration regulations when issuing licenses to illegal immigrants. This negligence, as highlighted in the lawsuit, can endanger not only their own citizens but also people across state borders. The case gained national attention following a deadly crash involving an undocumented truck driver. Uthmeier stated that strict enforcement of English-language proficiency is crucial for ensuring road safety, emphasised by the recent withholding of federal funds from California due to non-compliance. The lawsuit filed by Florida requires Supreme Court approval as it directly involves Constitutional issues and seeks to address the serious concerns raised.
