Fleeing DUI suspect kills pedestrian during destructive rampage in Lacey
A driver suspected of being impaired killed a pedestrian, hit several cars, and crashed into a building in Lacey Wednesday afternoon, according to Lacey police. At 3:26 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Pacific Avenue Southeast and Carpenter Road Southeast for reports of a crash involving several cars. Officers arrived and discovered a truck driven by a man suspected of DUI had hit a car in the 7-Eleven parking lot on Pacific Avenue. While trying to flee, he pulled onto Pacific Avenue, hit two other cars, and drove into the Reserve at Lacey building, hitting a woman standing on the sidewalk. Lacey Fire Department medics tried to save her life, but she did not survive. The suspect and two other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. According to Lacey police, the DUI suspect admitted to drinking earlier that day and had his 8-year-old in the truck. The child was not hurt. After he was medically cleared, the man was booked into the Thurston County jail for investigation of hit-and-run, reckless endangerment, and vehicular homicide.
