Father in Billings seeks to reform laws following daughter's motorcycle accident
A father in Billings is seeking legislative changes after being required to remove a memorial for his daughter who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident. Lem Robinson had set up an angel memorial in memory of his daughter, Savanah, who lost her life in May on Highway 3 near the Billings airport. Despite visiting the memorial daily to commemorate his daughter, it was dismantled following a directive from airport officials, ending a dispute that had lasted for months. Robinson is now looking towards the future and is determined to work on modifying Montana's laws concerning motorcycle safety and penalties for impaired driving. His proposed alterations include making motorcycle liability insurance mandatory, reducing the blood alcohol content limit for motorcycle riders from 0.08 to 0.05, and enforcing tougher consequences for impaired drivers. Although the legislative process poses challenges, Senator Mike Yakawich believes with a well-constructed idea and collaboration with community members, progress can be made step by step through the legislature chambers. Robinson has started his mission by engaging with various Montana lawmakers regarding his suggested changes and has been met with positive feedback from the community and state officials. Robinson is optimistic about the potential impact of his efforts despite recognizing the arduous journey ahead towards implementing these legislative modifications by 2027.
