Fatality in DUI rollover crash in Ventura County
A fatal collision occurred in Ventura County this past weekend, involving a DUI crash leading to the death of one individual and the arrest of another. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday on Freeway 118 near Price Road, as confirmed by officials from the California Highway Patrol. The driver, a 27-year-old from Oxnard, was driving a 2017 Honda Accord eastbound on the freeway at a speed exceeding the 55 mph limit, with a 25-year-old Oxnard man as the passenger. Due to reasons still under investigation by CHP, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, crash into an SCE Utility pole, and roll over multiple times. Tragically, the impact of the crash caused the passenger to be thrown from the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. Despite efforts from emergency responders, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The crash led to the closure of SR-118 between Price Road and Aggen Road for about five hours to aid in emergency response and scene documentation. The Southern California Edison (SCE) was also called to address the damaged power pole and downed lines.
