Fatal wrong-way collision on GA 10 Inner Loop in Athens, according to police
Early Sunday morning, a tragic multi-vehicle collision on the GA 10 Inner Loop resulted in the loss of two lives, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. The incident occurred when a driver traveled in the wrong direction, causing a chain reaction of crashes involving several vehicles. The authorities received reports of the wrong-way driver near Chase Street, leading to a collision near Oglethorpe Avenue. The driver responsible, a 26-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, collided with multiple vehicles including a Mercedes-Benz and a Ford Expedition, before crashing head-on into a Toyota Camry. This collision resulted in fatalities for both the wrong-way driver and the Toyota driver, with critical injuries sustained by their respective passengers. Fortunately, the occupants of the other vehicles involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries. This tragic incident marks the eighth fatal crash in Athens-Clarke County this year, resulting in a total of ten traffic-related deaths in 2025.
