Fatal two-car crash shuts down eastbound 10 in West L.A.

Traffic was at a standstill in eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway after a two-car crash that left one person dead and two others, one of whom was allegedly detained by witnesses, hospitalized Monday evening. Medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene near the South Robertson Boulevard just after 7 p.m. on reports of the crash.   Arriving firefighters had to extinguish one of the involved vehicles, which was fully involved with fire.  “One patient was determined beyond medical help and deceased on scene,” fire officials said in a news release. “A second patient in critical condition has been transported to the hospital by paramedics.”   A third person who was reportedly detained by witnesses to the crash was also taken to the hospital. That person’s condition was not immediately available.   Aerial footage of the aftermath captured by Sky5 showed miles of motorists stuck on the freeway, with California Highway Patrol officials issuing a Sig-Alert that was expected to last for an unknown amount of time.   Traffic was slowly being diverted off the eastbound 10 at Robertson Boulevard, CHP said in a post on X. Investigators were visible on the roadway using flashlights and canvasing the area for any relevant evidence in the crash. One of the vehicles that appeared to have sustained the worst damage was wedged up against the freeway divider and had a white sheet draped over the driver’s side vehicle, likely where the deceased victim was awaiting transport from the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office.   No further information has been released, including whether alcohol and or drugs may have been a factor in the deadly crash.
