Fatal turnpike crash west of Boynton involved 7 vehicles, 19 occupants

The Florida Highway Patrol is giving details of a chain-reaction crash that closed northbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike west of Boynton for several hours last weekend.In all seven vehicles and 19 occupants were involved, according to FHP.At 10:09 a.m. Saturday, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the rollover before mile marker 90 near Exit 68 at Boynton Beach Boulevard. It wasn't until 4:51 that all lanes were open again and the Boynton Beach Boulevard exit was no longer blocked. Southbound lanes had also faced congestion.A 69-year-old woman from Greenacres was pronounced deceased at the scene by PBCFR after her vehicle initiated the multi-reaction crash.Six patients were considered trauma alerts, with one taken by Trauma Hawk. They all went to Delray Medical Center, according to FHP.The woman was driving a 2023 Honda Ridgeline northbound in the outside lane, FHP said.A semi-truck and trailer driven by a man was northbound in the outside laneFor unknown reasons, the Ridgeland left the northbound outside travel lane and entered the outside shoulder, FHP said. The front left vehicle collided with the truck's right rear portion of the trailer. The Ridgeland continued in a northerly direction and re-entered the outside travel lane and continued north. The truck driver had no injuries.Five other vehicles were also involved in the crash.A 2025 Jeep Wagoneer with three additional occupants, including two minors. They all had "incapacitating injuries," according to FHP.A 2023 Honda CRV with one passenger. The driver, a woman, had "incapacitating injuries," and a passenger went to a hospital with minor injuries.A 2025 Lincoln Aviator driven by a man with two passengers. No injuries were reported.A 2023 Hyundai Tucson driven by a man with three passengers. No injuries were reported.A 2019 Jeep Cherokee driven by a man with three passengers. No injuries were reported.The Ridgeland, after striking the truck, collided with the Jeep, then hit the Honda CR-V, which came to a final rest westerly direction on the outside shoulder and outside travel lane.The Ridgeland then rotated in a clockwise direction, where the front collided with the outside concrete barrier wall. After the Jeep was struck by the Ridgeland, it was redirected in a northwesterly direction, where the front left sideswiped the front right of the Hyundai. The Jeep then collided with the Jeep Cherokee's rear mobility scooter lift and electric mobility scooter.
