Fatal train accident in Newport News, investigation underway
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A person has died after being hit by a train in Newport News Sunday afternoon, according to police and CSX officials. According to CSX, one of their trains came into contact with an individual located on the tracks North of the Denbigh Boulevard crossing at approximately 3:41 p.m. Units with the Newport News Police Department were quickly dispatched at 3:47 p.m. Upon the arrival of officers, an adult age male was found and pronounced deceased at the scene. No foul play is suspected, according to police. "CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident", says CSX Media Relations Director Austin Slaton. No CSX crew members were injured. CSX officials say they will support law enforcement as the investigation continues.
