Fatal three-car collision claims life of St. Bernard woman in Meraux
The recent tragic incident in St. Bernard Parish, involving a fatal collision on E. Judge Perez Highway near Bartolo Street, is currently under investigation by the Louisiana State Police. The accident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. last Saturday, involved three vehicles. Initial reports suggest that Rita Owens, a 91-year-old resident of St. Bernard, was driving a 2016 Nissan Versa south on E. Judge Perez Highway when her vehicle collided with a 2019 Nissan Versa also traveling south. Following this impact, Owens' car crossed into the closed construction lane and struck a stationary Ford F350. Unfortunately, Owens, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and later passed away at a local hospital. The driver of the 2019 Nissan Versa and the occupant of the Ford involved in the collision escaped unharmed. The investigation into this incident is currently ongoing.
