Fatal one-car crash under investigation in Wellesley

A driver was found unresponsive in his vehicle and later died after a one-car crash in Wellesley on Thursday morning, police said.According to police, a woman flagged down an officer at 11:18 a.m. She was standing near a black SUV that was stopped in the middle of Washington Street near Glen Road. When the officer approached, he saw the driver inside was unconscious. The driver was taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital by the Natick Fire Department, but did not survive. According to police, investigators believe the SUV was traveling eastbound on Washington Street when it left the roadway at Orchard Street. It reentered the roadway and eventually came to a stop near 76 Washington Street. Police said the area would be closed to traffic for an extended time because of the investigation.The identity of the driver was not released, pending notification of his family.
