Fatal crash on Tomball Parkway after wrong-way driver causes fiery collision, officials report.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a fatal crash occurred on Tomball Parkway overnight resulting in the death of a wrong-way driver and hospitalization of another individual. The incident took place around 1:40 a.m. on SH-249 South near Jones Road. The wrong-way driver, identified as 25-year-old Julio Alberto Calero Ramirez, was traveling north in the southbound lanes when he collided with another vehicle, causing it to catch on fire. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene, while emergency responders rescued the second driver from the burning vehicle. The second driver sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, three deputies involved in the rescue only suffered minor injuries and were treated on-site without needing hospitalization.
