Fatal Crash on I-96 near Portland
A fatal accident involving multiple semi-trucks occurred on Tuesday around 4:45 p.m. on I-96 in Orange Township, west of Portland. The incident occurred in the westbound lanes near Sunfield Road. According to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened as cars were merging for a construction zone, leading to a semi colliding with an SUV and subsequently causing a chain reaction involving another SUV. Tragically, one person lost their life at the scene, with two others sustaining serious injuries and being hospitalized in Lansing. The crash was still being investigated the next day.
