
Fatal Crash on East Palomar Street: Teen Driver Dies - Chula Vista Police
A tragic incident occurred on Monday night in east Chula Vista where a 17-year-old driver lost their life in a crash that may have been linked to street racing. Chula Vista Police responded to reports of a silver Toyota Corolla and gray Hyundai Elantra racing on East Palomar Street. The Corolla crashed on the eastbound side after the driver failed to navigate a turn and hit a palm tree, resulting in the car splitting in half. Despite efforts by responding officers and paramedics, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased driver has not been disclosed. The 28-year-old driver of the Elantra, who is a Chula Vista resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Fortunately, the two small children in the back of the Elantra were unharmed. While the crash is under investigation by the CVPD Traffic Bureau, witnesses reported that the vehicles were engaged in a speed contest. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
