Fatal Crash of an SUV and Train
Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving an SUV and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad train early Wednesday morning. According to the York County Sheriff's Office, emergency communications received a report from BNSF at approximately 4:20 a.m. of a collision between a locomotive and a vehicle. Investigators say a southbound SUV on Highway 81 left the roadway near mile marker 63 and came to rest on the railroad tracks below the highway. The vehicle was then struck by an eastbound BNSF locomotive. Responding deputies and York Police officers found the driver dead at the scene. No members of the train crew were injured. The driver's identity has not been released pending identification and notification of family members. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the York County Sheriff's Office at (402) 362-4927. The investigation remains ongoing.
