Fatal crash involving bicyclist and child on San Luis Rey River Trail
A 72-year-old man cycling on the San Luis Rey River Trail in Oceanside tragically passed away on Sunday following a collision with a child on a scooter. The incident occurred near Mance Buchanon Park around 10:40 a.m., as reported by the Oceanside Police Department. The man was riding with a companion when they approached a family moving in the same direction. An unintentional movement by a 7-year-old child on a scooter led to the cyclist crashing as he tried to overtake. Despite wearing a helmet, the cyclist hit his head on the ground upon falling. Despite receiving prompt CPR from first responders, he was unable to be revived and was later pronounced dead at Fire Station 5. The victim's identity has not been disclosed and further information is currently unavailable.
