Fatal crash in Shreveport claims life of 33-year-old woman

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A 33-year-old woman was killed early Sunday morning when her car left Fern Avenue, struck a utility pole, and overturned in Shreveport. According to Shreveport Police, the crash occurred at approximately 6:16 a.m. in the 5800 block of Fern Avenue near Business Park Drive.  When officers arrived, they found a 2012 Fiat 500 on its side with a small fire in the engine compartment. The Shreveport Fire Department, which also responded to the scene, extinguished the flames and extricated the driver.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Shreveport Police Crash Investigations Unit is conducting the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling southbound on Fern Avenue before leaving the roadway for reasons unknown.  The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and took custody of the deceased. Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
