Fatal crash in Greenwich Village caused by driver going the wrong way, according to police.
A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning in Manhattan where a woman lost her life after being hit by a driver going the wrong way, as reported by the New York City Police Department. The collision occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Morton Street and Seventh Avenue in Greenwich Village. The victim, a 27-year-old woman, was walking south on Seventh Avenue when she was struck by a GMC van traveling in a westward direction on Morton Street, which is designated as eastbound only for traffic. Upon arriving at the scene, CBS News New York's Alice Gainer noted that the van may have been exiting a garage at the time of the incident. There have been previous accounts from locals, such as Philip Mortillaro, who have observed vehicles driving in the wrong direction on Morton Street. He emphasized the need for clearer signage indicating the proper direction of traffic flow to prevent such accidents. The driver involved in this incident, a 61-year-old man, remained at the scene and as of now, no charges have been filed against him.
