Fatal crash between tractor-trailer and Smithfield man in Isle of Wight County
The Virginia State Police reported a fatal collision on Saturday morning involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Benns Church Boulevard and South Church Street in Smithfield. The driver of a Honda Pilot, James Norman Porter III, 63, turned left into the path of an oncoming Freightliner tractor-trailer. Porter sustained life-threatening injuries and unfortunately passed away after being taken to Riverside Regional Hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed, and the authorities confirmed that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Family members have been informed, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
