
Fatal collision on U.S. 30 claims one life in Whiteside County
A tragic incident occurred in Whiteside County yesterday, resulting in one fatality and two individuals sustaining serious injuries following a collision between two vehicles. According to a statement from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, a report was received regarding a crash involving two vehicles on U.S. Route 30 at the I-88 Mile Marker 44 westbound onramp on September 8 around 3:30 p.m. The investigation by deputies and the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit revealed that a Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 30 and attempted to make a westbound turn onto I-88. Unfortunately, the Impala did not yield to eastbound traffic and was struck by a flatbed construction truck. Tragically, a passenger in the Impala sustained fatal injuries, while both drivers suffered severe injuries. The identities of those involved are being kept confidential until their families can be notified. The crash is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, with support from various agencies including the Illinois State Police, Sterling Fire Department, Rock Falls Fire Department, CHG EMS, Slim & Hanks, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and ComEd, all of whom provided assistance at the scene.
