Fatal accident: SUV strikes and kills scooter rider in Santa Rosa
A man was tragically killed in Santa Rosa after being struck by an SUV while riding a scooter through an intersection on Friday morning, local authorities reported. The Santa Rosa Police Department received a call at 8:11 a.m. about a pedestrian-vehicle collision at the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and El Portal Way. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the victim deceased. It was revealed through investigation that the 61-year-old victim was riding a motorized scooter northbound on Santa Rosa Avenue when he was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe making a left turn onto southbound Santa Rosa Avenue from a parking lot. The driver of the SUV, a 30-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, claimed to have not seen the scooter prior to the accident and cooperated fully with authorities. The victim, a resident of Rohnert Park, was not publicly named until his family was informed.
