
Fatal accident: Man dies in collision on Highway 65 near Bondurant
A fatal accident occurred early Monday morning, resulting in the death of one individual. The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported that a pickup truck driver veered off Highway 65 at Northeast 112th Street around 4:30 a.m., causing a fire under the vehicle. Bystanders managed to rescue the single occupant, an adult male, from the truck before emergency personnel arrived. Despite life-saving efforts by deputies and rescue teams, the man later passed away at a nearby hospital due to his injuries. Temporary closure of both southbound lanes on Highway 65 was necessary but has since reopened. The incident is currently being investigated. According to recent data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, there have been 218 road fatalities this year in Iowa, which is a decrease of 61 compared to the same period last year. On average, 353 individuals per year have lost their lives in statewide accidents over the past five years.
