Fatal Accident in Aurora Linked to Driver Running Red Light, Authorities Report
Authorities in Aurora have apprehended a man they believe to be responsible for a deadly collision that occurred last night. The Aurora Police Department reported that Cornelius Thomas, a 41-year-old resident of Aurora, was operating a Chevrolet Tahoe on E. Jewell Avenue when he disregarded a red light at the intersection with S. Peoria Street. Thomas was allegedly speeding when he ran the light and collided with a Chevrolet Cruze traveling north on Peoria Street. The driver of the Cruze, a 28-year-old male, was tragically killed in the crash. Thomas and his female passenger were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Subsequently, Thomas was taken into custody by police and placed in the Aurora Detention Center, where he faces charges of vehicular homicide.
