Family honors 13-year-old daughter after fatal tree fall accident at Pineview Reservoir
NORTH OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — Friends and family prepare for the celebration of life held for the 13-year-old girl who was killed from a tragic accident after a tree fall at Pineview Reservoir. After the conclusion of a family paddleboarding day at Pineview Reservoir, Leina Roxanne Capanna was struck by a falling tree. Despite a quick response from first responders, Leina arrived to the Ogden Regional Hospital and her family learned she would be unable to survive from the extent of her injuries. Further evaluation and Primary Children's Hospital confirmed Leina would not recover. The family made the decision to opt her to be selected as an organ donor, to which they extend their gratitude for allowing them to have more time to spend with her before her official passing on June 9. Matches have been selected for her heart, liver, and kidneys, to which her obituary claims her family's, "grief was eased some when they learned that organ donation would allow Leina to continue with her natural tendency to help others in any way she could. They are excited and grateful that her donations have already blessed several people’s lives and they hope that this kindness will propagate endlessly." A GoFundMe for Leina's family states "she worked just as hard at her music as she did at her sports." Leina played soccer and volleyball, and was recently accepted into the chamber orchestra at North Ogden Junior High as a cellist. She was known for being a great teammate and friend with the same "fiery intensity" that she had for everything she achieved in life. Additionally, Leina "loved roller coasters, blue and purple, hamburgers, leaving her socks strewn around the house, music, attending concerts with her family, and marshmallows in any color, form, or shape." Her family will never forget her love of cosmetology and the term she coined from her last name to describe her manicures: "Capannacure." She is survived by her parents, older brother, little sister, and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Leina's family extends deep appreciation to the first responders and staff at both hospitals that cared for her. The family requests friends and family coming to her services wear something that represents a connection to Leina and be prepared to receive a "Capannacure."
