Drivers face delays after crash shuts down portion of I-55 in Darien

DARIEN, Ill. — Drivers faced some delays early Friday morning after a semi spilled fuel along the Stevenson Expressway following a crash. According to Illinois State Police troopers, the crash unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-55, near Lemont Road in Darien. While it is currently unclear what led to the crash, troopers said it involved a car and a semi, which spilled fuel along the roadway. In total, troopers said two people were taken to the hospital following the crash, though the extent of their injuries is unclear. Because of the fuel spill, troopers shut down all lanes of I-55, and traffic was diverted onto Lemont Road. While some lanes have reopened, troopers said there will be extended lane blockage on both the northbound and southbound lanes due to the cleanup. Troopers say drivers should expect delays and should seek alternate routes if possible.
