Driver killed in Medina County crash involving semi: Sheriff’s office
***Editor's note: Initial information from the sheriff's office on the victim's identity has since been corrected.*** WESTFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) - Sheriff's deputies are investigating after a deadly two-vehicle crash in Medina County on Monday morning. According to the Medina County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just after 7:30 a.m. along U.S. Route 224, at Buffham Road in Westfield Township. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Subaru SUV did not yield the right of way to traffic, colliding with a semi tractor-trailer. The Subaru driver, 79-year-old Crispin Vargas Jr. of Lodi, was taken to Lodi Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Investigators said he was not wearing a seat belt. The semi driver, a 66-year-old man, was not injured in the crash. Further details in the deadly crash remain under investigation at this time.
