Driver killed in Marshall’s second fatal crash this week

MARSHALL, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — At approximately 9:52 a.m. on June 12, officers with the Marshall Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Loop 390 and Scottsville Road (FM 1998). A passenger vehicle collided with a truck. Marshall Fire Department paramedics transported the driver of the passenger vehicle to a local medical center, where he later died from his injuries. The deceased driver has been identified as Felton Augusta Hopkins, Jr., 98, of Marshall. The driver of the truck was not injured. Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth said, “This is the second fatal crash our community has experienced this week, and each loss is tragic.” “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Hopkins during this difficult time. We want to remind everyone to slow down, stay focused, and use extra caution on our roadways. A moment of attention can make all the difference.” The crash remains under investigation by the Marshall Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time. Another fatal crash took place in Marshall on June 10, in the 5100 block of East End Boulevard South. Parts of Scottsville Road in the area have been closed and barricaded for road work.
